Pulling on her boots as she readied for the day ahead. At the end of her bed sat a dark grey Tom cat named Castillo. The loud purr having been part of what woke her as he wanted food. The cat was kneading her blanket as he waited for her to head downstairs. “Alright Cas, let's go. The day won't wait for us”, placing a scratch behind his ears as she walked by. With a meow and a leap, Cas was walking at her heels. Aria now downstairs as she knew her parents would be waiting for her. Breakfast already on the mend as her mother prepared it, taking a sniff she could smell bacon, eggs, and baking bread, "smells wonderful mother”, Charissa shot her daughter a gleeful smile and waved a good morning greeting. Her mother was a woman of few words, and she had always been good at getting her point across with just a few hand gestures. Of course, her mother could write as well though. Aria's eyes fell to the gruff-looking man who was her father. Tom Stryker, mean-looking but the most caring man she'd ever met. The man had worked hard all his life since he was about the age of 12. That being the age his father taught him the family business of blacksmithing. Just as he had taught her. Truth be told, Aria loved her life. She loved her parents, her friends, but most certainly her job as an apprentice blacksmith under her father. Getting to build new weapons and armor wasn't something that was easy, but it was something she was proud of. Even more so when her pieces were bought. Aria could create some of the lightest but sturdiest armor around. Granted, it wasn't really as good as her father's armor, but she even sometimes impressed him. People from miles around came to their shop for repairs to their belongings. Having worked for some of the most highly respected people, but none compared to when she was able to work on the Dragonriders armor. On those rare days, she would spend extra time on her work. Polishing the steel till it gleamed in the sunlight brightly. Aria's father practically having to drag her away from the pieces that protected the dragons and their riders. But hey, no one dared say she wasn't through in her works though. Making a good solid reputation for herself just as her father had. Sitting down at the table with her father as they waited for her mother to serve breakfast to the table. Aria's father looking at her as he began to speak with a small grin on his face, ”why don't you take the day off? Go have a good time today and visit with your friends”, watching as he looked outside at the sunlight that was finally beginning to fill the sky. Aria knitting her eyebrows together in confusion, ”you sure father? I had a few projects that I needed to--” Her father waved her words away, ”I'm sure dear, go be young for a day. The festival of the spring equinox will be starting tonight with the feast, bonfire, and dancing.” Aria grew giddy as her father mentioned the festival, for it was her second favorite holiday. Hallows Eve or as some call it the festival of the new harvest moon, was her favorite. Getting to dress up in costume and mask for the dance as the people lined the streets. Carved pumpkins giving off a soft glow as they are lit with candles. Smiling brightly Aria beamed as the thoughts of what she would do today ran through her mind. Having not been able to see her friends, Alastar and Zehra in a while. The two were brother and sister and Aria’s best friends. Alastar stood a good four inches above Aria, while his sister was one or two inches shorter than her. Alastar was built with a lean and tone form. His hair jet black like his father's, but his eyes were as blue as the ocean. On the other hand, Zehra was a strawberry blonde with eyes the color of the clearest sky. Her form was a bit more curvy and full. Were as Alastar was definitely into black, his sister was all about colors. Sometimes it would even drive Aria crazy with the things that Zehra had her try on. Aria herself being one of crimson reds, black, and silver. The trio had been friends since their toddler days. Their parents had known each other since their childhoods. Growing up together had been the best so far. Finally, breakfast was served. Making her plate, Aria ate quickly as they all sat in comfortable silence before her mother spoke up with a gentle voice, ”so what will you troublesome three get into today?” Aria looked at her mother from over the rim of her cup, shrugging, ”I don’t know. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them since we all are working now. I guess we'll find out.” Shooting her mother a grin before standing and taking her plate to the sink, ”thank you for the food mother”, quickly she kissed her mother’s and father’s cheek before running out into the street. Horses pulled carriages and vendors were setting up to sell their goods as people began to flood the cobbled street. The sun had already peeked over the mountain by now. Warm fingers of the sun's rays began to heat up the air as it sent the morning chill on its way. Quickly walking down the street, Aria was heading for the house she claimed to be her home away from home. Taking a left and then a right before ending up at the door that she knocked on. Alastar was the one to answer the door, his still messed up hair and sleep eyes told her that she had woken him, ”oh, sorry Alastar, I didn’t mean to wake you.” Alastar gave her a sleepy grin, ”you’re fine Aria, what are you doing here?” Small shrug, ”father gave me the day off, do you think your parents would let you guys off the hook for today?” Alastar reached up and rubbed the back of his neck, ”I”m not sure, I mean I can ask, but don’t be surprised if he says no. Mother has been slightly ill lately and so I and Zehra are having to pick up the slack”, he stepped out of her way, ”come in, I am sure everyone would like to see you." Aria’s lips pulled into a small smile as she entered the home. Alastar closed the door behind her. Zehra was at the breakfast table, has always been an early riser. Alastar being the one who slept in. Zehra’s face lit up like a Yule tree once her eyes landed on Aria,”**Aria!**” Smiling back to her friend,”hey Z”, pulling the shorter girl into a tight hug. “What are you going here”, Zehra questioned. “I’ve come to see if you guys wanted to go to the falls and hang out, as we used to”, letting go of Zehra and catching the movement that was the sibling's father. Torryn was a slightly smaller build than her father. The man had helped her father in his shop every now and again, ”hello Mr. Blackwood”, the smile on her face easy. “Well if it isn’t Miss Aria, what brings you here so early”, Torryn questioned her with a light grin on his face. “I’ve come to hopefully claim these two for a day of rest and fun. If you’ll let me that is”, giving the older man a sheepish smile. Torryn arched a brow, ”Tom give you the day off did he? Very well then, I know these two have been working hard trying to keep up in the shop, a day of rest won’t hurt them.” Zehra hugged her father tightly, ”thank you, dad”, then let go to put on her shoes since she was already dressed. Alastar ran up the stairs to his room to get dressed and within a moment was shooting back down those same steps, ”ready!” They all filed out of the door quickly so that their father couldn’t change his mind. The trio ran down the street to get as far away from the house as possible. Laughing and joking along the way. Finally slowly up as they entered the marketplace where vendors sold their goods that came from across the world. Fabrics, pottery, foods, and much more could be bought here. Stopping by a fruit vendor, Aria picked a few and put them into a bag. Paying for the snacks before walking off with a thank you and a smile. “It’s been a while since we’ve all been off on the same day”, Aria spoke up before taking a bite of a green apple. “That it has, but then again we’ve all just been rather busy as well”, Alastar answered her. Zehra nodded her agreeance, ”so what are we going to do with our free time?" Swallowing, ”I say we go for a horse ride in the hills. It’s been a good while since I’ve ridden and I’d like to be back in the saddle.” “Agreed”, the siblings said in unison, and just like old-time, they were off on an adventure. It didn’t take long to reach the Greylock stables. The smell of horses filled the hair as they snorted and pawed in their paddocks. Greylock stables were known for the best horses in Ardreth Port. Many of these beasts went for high dollar, everyone from Kings to low class bought their mounts from Greylock. Thankfully if you didn’t need to buy a horse the stables would also let you rent one for a day for a price. Depending on what you needed depended on the price you paid. The three made their way to the office of the stables, the door propped open by a rock to let in the air. A short yet stout man was behind the counter, lifting his eyes to look at them, he grinned,”Wha' can a' do fer ye, lad and lassies?” Aria beamed brightly at the gentlemen, ”we’d like to rent three of your trail horses please.” “Ach, aye, a fine idea. Lucky fer ye tha' ye got in a'fore the evenin' rush beat'cha”, jotting down a few notes, possibly the names of the horses, ”that’ll be nine shillings, lass.” The man holding out his hand, Aira nodded and handing over the currency. In return, the man handed her three bridles from the back wall behind him. Nodding to the man, they all left and went to claim their horses for the day. An hour later the trio was headed for the falls. They walked most of the way but also gave way to racing short distances every now and again. Laughter from them rang through the hills as they told jokes and reminisced on the past. After a few-mile horse ride, they were finally at the waterfall's edge. Not many knew of these smaller falls, but Aria was thankful for it. For it had been her place to relax and sort through many troubling times. A getaway if you will. The water was always crystal clear. Shining brightly with the rays of the sun now beating down on the ripples of the water. Small fish swam in the clear waters, having been caught in the rift that carried them here. The three would hang out here all day. Playing in the waters and relaxing away from the hassle of the city. Aria was leaned back on her elbows, facing upwards towards the sun as her eyes were closed. A small breezed played on her hair as it fluttered by. The cool grass on her now bare feet made it all complete. The sounds of clashing waters as it fell in on itself in a medium-sized pool. “So Aria, have you given much thought to your father's proposal? Of taking over the business”, Alastra called out from floating on his back in the shallow waters. Aria's brows knitted close together as she remembered the proposal her father had given her. Many would think her a fool to not take it. But even though she loved her father and his business, being a blacksmith wasn't what Aria saw herself doing. Nor did she see herself taking after her mother as a midwife. Not very sure as to what she wishes to do at all really. “Honestly, I'm not sure Al. I don't really know what I wish to do with my life. I guess I do need to figure such things out though, my eighteenth birthday is just a few hours away”, she spoke without lifting her head or moving. Piping up a few feet away under a shade tree, Zehra, ”I am going to be a Baker, like our mother”, a beaming expression on her face. That wasn't a life that Aria wanted either. She wanted adventure. Travel. Danger. What she wanted to do was soar on the wings of her very own dragon. To touch the clouds and get out of Ardreth Port. Wanting to truly live and see the world. Falling back to lay completely flat now, Aria drifted off into a small nap under the warmth of the sun's rays. Floating off to dragon of dragons and blue skies. What Aria thought to be hours, was actually only moments before it happened. A hot burning sensation on the palm of her hand bolted her upright and a hiss of pain. Al and Zehra ran to hee. “What's wrong”, Alastar's voice laced with concern as he looked her over. “Ari”, recognizing Zehra's voice as her head swam. “I.. I need to.. get home”, her voice slung together as if she were drunk. Alastair quickly picked up his clothes and then Aria. Her stomach was in knots as if she'd be sick. Her head left as light as a feather. Coming to enough to realize she was not mounted onto a horse with Alastar before her. Wrapping her arms around his waist as he held onto her, clicking the horse into a full gallop. Zehra right behind them with the horse she rode in on in tow. Aria fought the urge to fall under and into darkness, but her head was beginning to pound and her stomach lurched. She was slipping, slipping down into the abyss of her mind. Just add they came into town and the sound of steel horseshoes on a cobblestone street rang in her ears, she had held out for as long as she could. Finally falling into the pool of darkness. Not knowing how long she had been floating in the dark liquid. Aria opened her eyes, but only a thick blanket of black met her. Unable to see. There was nothing to smell. Only the dark water she floated in to touch. But.. she could hear it, the steady pounding of a pulse. One that urged her to find it. One that called to her in whispers. In the pit of her stomach, Aria knew it to be vital that she find the who or what that called to her. That she had limited time to do so. Just like that, the dreams he released and let her come to. Bolting upright, remembering the mark on her hand as she lifted her hand to look at it. Soon realizing she was no longer at the waterfalls but in her bedroom. At the end of her bed sat her mother and Castillo, her mother looking as if she hadn't slept in a while. “Mom..”, her voice low. Jumping at the sound of her voice her mom put the cat down and leaped up to search over Aria's head, ”oh gosh Aria! I was afraid you were a goner.” Giving her mother a weird look mixed with slight confusion, ”I'm fine mom.” “You most certainly are not. Do you realize how long you've been out”, the questioning tone of her mother drilling her mind? “A few hours..”, Aria answered back with a questioning tone. “No, you've been in this bed for over a day. A full day, Aria”, concern really showed on her face now. But honestly, she felt fine, besides the point that she wanted to run out and begin her search for the whispering pulse. Aria gave her mother a sweet smile and a hug, ”where is father”, she asked as she let go of her mother's slender form. Charissa sighed softly, ”he is downstairs, talk or well more like arguing with a man over your future.” That really puzzled Aria, why would her father be doing such a thing? Then she heard him, his voice hard as a rock in his decision. Stern and gruff. Aria could pinpoint him anywhere, but another stern voice also came through. This one more trained and more so telling her father what would happen if he didn't release Aria to him. Giving her mother a quick glance before standing and moving out of her room to the living room. Aria looked between her father and a man who she had never seen before. “Father, what's going on”, cutting in before either of them could speak again. Tom shot the man with a warning glare, ”this brute wishes to take you away. To an academy, he says--” Aria gaped, the only academy around for miles was the Drywce Academy for Dragon Riders. Somehow, Aria knew that was where she needed to be headed to find what she sought. Aria stepped towards the man, who didn't seem to be much older than herself. Build with a solid form, Aria took note of him. Holding out her palm, ”sir, does it have something to do with this?” The man looked over her palm and spoke, ”it has everything to do with that. It's a dragon mark. Only those who have come of age and are soul bound to a dragon gain them. By the way, my name is Sindorin.” Aria nodded to the man before turning on a heel, ”I must go with him. This mark showed up on my hand just before things began to go crazy with my head. I must find out what this means.” Her father went to speak up and before her mother placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, ”then go find your destiny my girl.” Aria beamed at her mother's words, running to hug her tightly. Sindorin spoke up, ”I'll be waiting outside than.” She nodded to him before he walked out the door. Aria turned to her father, ”I'll be fine father, but I must know what this means. Trust in me. I'll be back as soon as I can. I swear to you.” Her father's eyes teared up as he hugged her tightly, ”I do believe in you Aria.” With that he let her go, giving them both one last look before turning and leaving the only home she knew. the role player Alias • Vixaria Time Zone • Central Time Other Characters • if any |
